Why I Chose Restoration
I chose to go into restoration for my senior project because I felt that it would give me a taste of what the career field is like. I've always had an interest in it, but more as a hobby. The art of taking something that is antique or sentimental to someone and making it shine with the charm that it did the day it rolled out of the factory just fascinates me. I believe that it helps younger generations to be able to really appreciate antiques in an unrivaled way, and can encourage future generations to respect the things we have.
My Research Paper
I wrote my research paper on the history of toy manufacturing and safety. This wasn't a topic that I was particularly interested in until I dug deeper into it, and was amused at some of the mistakes that companies have made throughout history. It awestruck me that so many harmful substances were able to make it onto production lines for children's toys, rather it be lead paint, PVC, chlorine, or even uranium, in one case. Many of these weren't mistakes, but rather plans to save the manufacturer money. By cutting corners and carelessly throwing whatever was necessary into and onto products, companies were able to save money, but at the expense of the safety and well-being of our planets younger generations.
