My Experiences and What I Learned
In the 18.5 hours that I spent on my project, I learned quite a few things, both bad and good. Some of these things are:
On a lighter note:
- I am not the greatest at managing my time
- Sanding 40-year old paint and rust without a mask is a bad idea
- Relying on unverified sources for parts is not a good idea
- If you are taking on a project like this, be sure that you have all of the needed tools and equipment prior to starting
On a lighter note:
- Restoring something can be really fun if you are patient, and hopeful
- Painting is actually enjoyable if you can get the hang of it and deal with the smell
- Having an experienced and dedicated mentor is was one of the key elements to getting my project done, and without his expertise, I don't know that my project would look half as good as it does
Ultimately, I don't feel that restoration is the career for me.
